Each individual deserves personalized attention and compassionate care: that is Dr. La Sasso’s guiding principle as a clinical neuropsychologist. She respects the complexity of human beings and sees each client as more than just a series of diagnoses. In order to achieve truly effective treatment, she meets every patient wherever he or she is in life and on the journey to recovery.
Dr. La Sasso works with individuals, couples, and families. In addition to providing therapy to treat a wide range of mental health challenges (with specialty areas in mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, substance abuse, ADHD/learning disabilities, high-functioning adults on the autism spectrum, and hoarding), she also performs neuropsychological and psychological evaluations. These assessments aim to help adults experiencing emotional or functional difficulties in their personal, professional, and/or academic lives. In addition to addressing emotional and psychological disorders, she also has experience with cognitive disorders associated with neurological and medical conditions (such as brain tumors/chemo brain, autoimmune disorders, stroke, seizure, concussion/post-concussive syndrome, dementia), and pre-surgical evaluations (e.g. bariatric, chronic pain).
Working at UCSD’s renowned Eating Disorder Clinic and more recently heading the eating disorder program at a residential addiction treatment facility, Dr. La Sasso has gained a breadth of experience in conducting group therapy, which she particularly enjoys. In all her work, whether with individuals, families, couples, or groups, she enthusiastically embraces the process of transforming people’s lives and helping them to find their truest selves. Her extensive experience as a clinician has taught her that any opportunity for healing, change, or growth results from the partnership between a dedicated therapist and her clients; the best method for thriving and reaching a sense of fulfillment is through the strength of a united effort. For this reason especially, she is thrilled to be joining the team at True Life, where the capable and compassionate staff works together to tailor a treatment plan that recognizes each person as an entire being, not simply a set of problems.
Dr. La Sasso has a diverse academic background, having received a BA in American Studies from Franklin and Marshall College, an MA in Communication from Stanford University, her second MA in Psychology from Pepperdine University, and her PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. She completed externships at UCLA Medical Psychology Assessment Center, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and UCLA Memory Clinic, a clinical internship at UCLA in Major Mental Illness, and two years of post-doctoral fellowship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the UCLA Semel Institute and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. Dr. La Sasso loves to share knowledge through teaching and spent many years serving as an adjunct faculty member at Pepperdine University.
Dr. La Sasso understands how challenging it can be to receive supportive, respectful mental health care that lasts for the long term. That’s why she incorporates a holistic approach into each session, equipping couples, families, and individuals with the tools they need to survive life after therapy, to continue thriving in a sustainable manner outside of the clinical setting. After years of treating clients who had previously been evaluated by other mental health professionals and remained diagnostic dilemmas, were misdiagnosed, or had accumulated a laundry list of diagnoses with little relief or resolution, Dr. La Sasso has learned that above all else, it is vital to enter professional therapeutic engagements with a deep understanding of the patients’ circumstances. As a result of this critical partnership, patient and therapist can take the first steps towards change, healing, and transformation.
