Your thoughts begin to drift even as you are reading this sentence. You have trouble staying focused on a task your teacher has assigned. Sitting still in a lecture or at concert or even at the lunch table can seem like an overwhelming struggle. Why is it so easy for your classmates to pay attention and take notes? Why does everyone get frustrated when you need them to repeat instructions?
ADD/ADHD are disorders that permeate every aspect of someone’s life, from friendships, to school, to home life, to employment. ADHD makes it hard to follow the routines and patterns that govern our daily lives, because so much of what we do to be productive requires focus and attention. Even sitting down to have a conversation with an old friend over a cup of coffee can be an excruciating social ritual for someone with ADHD; you want to engage and to stay put, but your body and mind refuse to obey.
If you have been diagnosed with ADHD, don’t feel alone. ADHD is one of the most common disorders in our society, affecting over 4% of American adults per year and 9% of children age 13 to 18. It can impact anyone from early childhood through to adulthood, often going unnoticed and therefore untreated for years at a time. ADHD can set an entire life off course and make everyday living a grueling ordeal for you or your loved one.
True Life Center for Wellbeing is uniquely equipped to help people affected by ADHD. Our team approaches disorders from both traditional medical and holistic points of view, understanding that the mind and body are intrinsically affecting and affected by each other. While medical professionals and scientists still don’t understand the causes of ADHD fully, they do acknowledge that there may be a genetic component, which in turn can be compounded by environmental factors, such as premature birth, brain injury, or exposure to smoking, alcohol, and stress in the womb.
Our treatment course at True Life strives to guide our patients along the paths to their truest selves. Our staff is trained to work with you, using our expertise to deliver the treatment you need through a combination of psychotherapy, appropriate medication where needed, education, and various holistic treatments such as acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and fitness consultations.

Signs and Symptoms of ADD/ADHD
What is ADD/ADHD?
ADD/ADHD are thrown around in everyday language fairly casually, but they are serious conditions that affect every aspect of someone’s life. It’s not a catchall term for people with distraction issues or busybodies; it’s a very specific and very serious type of disorder that can only be diagnosed by trained experts over a period of time and observation.
ADHD is one of the most common disorders in children and can last into adolescence and even adulthood, rendering it difficult for those suffering to focus, pay attention, control their behavior, or rein in their proclivity for hyperactivity. There are in fact three major subtypes of ADHD. If you suspect that you or a loved one may be suffering from ADHD, read below to learn more about the subtypes and their symptoms.
Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive ADHD means that most of the symptoms manifest as hyperactive and impulsive behavioral tendencies. There may be some inattention symptoms present.
Predominantly inattentive ADD involves mostly inattentive symptoms, with far fewer hyperactivity symptoms present.
Hyperactive-impulsive AND inattentive ADD/ADHD is a combination of both types of symptoms. Most children experience this form of the disorder.
What are the different symptoms of ADD/ADHD?
Everyone has stray thoughts, loses focus, and gets fidgety now and then; whether or not you are suffering from ADD/ADHD is a different question altogether. In general, the signs of ADD/ADHD are overall inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. These signs are more severe and more frequent in children with ADHD. A diagnosis can be given after the symptoms have been occurring for more than six months at a time.
Symptoms of inattention:
You are easily distracted and tend to switch activities frequently
You get bored easily—unless you really enjoy it
You have trouble focusing on one thing
Learning a new thing or finishing a task prove difficult
Completing homework assignments can be a real struggle, and key tools for completing homework (such as pencils) get lost
Others do not think you are listening even when you are addressed
You tend to daydream or move slowly
You have trouble processing things as quickly as others seem to, especially if given instructions
Symptoms of hyperactivity:
Inability to sit still or fidgeting a lot in place
Incessant chattering or communication, even to the point of interrupting others
Running around with the impulse to touch and play with everything
Trouble with tasks that require quiet concentration and attention
You seem to be a perpetual motion machine
Symptoms of impulsivity:
You are impatient
You find it difficult to wait your turn or to delay gratification
You interrupt other people’s conversations or activities
You say things without thinking, appear emotionally reactive
You don’t worry about the consequences of what you do
Whether some or all of these symptoms affect you or your child or loved one, it is time to seek help. ADD/ADHD can make engaging in normal routines of daily life an impossible struggle, and we at True Life Center for Wellbeing are here to help you, to overcome that struggle together. Our staff’s approach tailors each treatment course to the individual’s needs; at True Life, you will find the specific combination of therapeutic remedies necessary to treat your set of symptoms and the way they have impacted your life. Don’t let your child agonize through another math test or get put in detention for talking out of turn. Don’t run away from coffee with a friend because you can’t control your symptoms. Don’t wait another moment to get the help you need.
What is the impact of ADD/ADHD?
ADD/ADHD makes you different. You learn differently, you behave differently, you think differently. Fitting into mainstream society can prove nearly impossibly for people suffering from ADD/ADHD, and we at True Life Center for Wellbeing understand this struggle.
The impact of ADD/ADHD goes beyond being fidgety at a restaurant or running around from game to game at recess. In the long term, untreated symptoms can taint every aspect of daily life, leading to poor performance in school, which in turn can lead to dropping out. People suffering from ADD/ADHD may turn to drugs and alcohol to cope with the effects of their disorder, developing substance abuse issues and depression. They may find gaining and keeping employment difficult. They may experience disciplinary issues and cause major disturbances in family life.
ADD/ADHD are treatable, and the team of compassionate experts at True Life knows how to help. Why wait any longer? Why suffer through another reprimand from your boss or your teacher? Act now, before ADD/ADHD derails the course of your own development, before your child fails out of school, before it takes any more control over your life. Call us to set up a consultation, and together, we can take the first steps on your journey to control.
